Educational Alliance Names Jordan Brackett Executive Director of the 14th Street Y

NEW YORK, NY – After conducting a national search, Educational Alliance named Jordan Brackett as the new Executive Director of the 14th Street Y. Mr. Brackett has served as interim executive director for the past seven months and was previously the 14th Street Y’s Associate Executive Director for Advancement and Planning.

“We reviewed over 100 applications from candidates across the country, whose expertise ranged from running Jewish cultural institutions to arts and educational organizations,” said Alan van Capelle, President and CEO of Educational Alliance. “After narrowing the field to an outstanding roster of finalists, Jordan’s personal connection to our community, professional expertise, and familiarity with the challenges and opportunities facing the 14Y made him the right choice for the position. Jordan and his team have a chance to make a lasting impact on the history of the 14th Street Y and I am confident he will be a transformational leader for our community.”

“Jordan has done an exemplary job stewarding the 14th Street Y as our interim executive director,” said Joseph Persky, Chair of the 14th Street Y Board. “I am excited to partner with him and our entire staff as we maximize the impact of the 14Y’s programs and continue to provide the East Village with high-caliber programming grounded in the belief that contemporary Jewish sensibilities can be a source of inspiration, connection, and learning to everyone.”

Roberta Karp, Chair of the Educational Alliance Board of Trustees, added, “The 14th Street Y is an important part of Educational Alliance’s network of community centers in Lower Manhattan. Our vision for the future of the 14Y includes a campaign to be a world-class Jewish cultural center that showcases our programs and assumes a spot as one of New York’s premiere downtown destinations. Jordan’s many talents will be called on to help lead that effort and we are very pleased to partner with him to make our plans a reality.”

“The new 14th Street Y will be a cultural destination with international acclaim that draws people from around the City, while still serving as a warm and welcoming second home for the neighborhood,” said Mr. Brackett. “I am honored and humbled to be asked to lead our community in this effort. I look forward to building on the great work of all those who have supported the 14th Street Y in years past and am eager to see what we accomplish together in the years ahead.”

Prior to joining the 14th Street Y, Mr. Brackett worked in several capacities in City government. Most recently, he was the Special Assistant to the Deputy Chancellor, helping to oversee operations for nearly 2,000 schools. He also served in City Hall, advising Mayor Michael Bloomberg on policies to minimize hunger and encourage healthy eating in New York City. Before his time in City government, Mr. Brackett was an attorney in the financial restructuring departments of two preeminent law firms. He holds degrees from Swarthmore College and Boston College Law School.
